1) Executive Director

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of La’akea Village. This includes but is not limited to management of staff and volunteers, program planning, fundraising, fiscal and legal oversight, budget development and relationship development both internally and externally. This position is the public face and voice of La’akea Village.


  • Provides leadership to staff. Ensures the highest quality of service and the attainment of established programmatic goals and priorities through team building, accountability, training and effective management.

  • Plans, leads and helps execute development efforts. In collaboration with the Board and the staff, the ED meets and networks with funders and prospective donors and has major responsibility for helping to enhance revenue streams.

  • Maintains fiscal solvency of agency and is responsible for all licensing and program compliance. Develops the annual agency budget, ensures proper fiscal accounting and controls in accordance with the guidelines of funding sources and utilizes sound accounting practices.

  • While working collaboratively with staff, Board members, and volunteers, oversees and is ultimately responsible for all program development, execution of programs, grant compliance and reporting.

  • Leads long-range planning and visioning, including assessment of programs, in partnership with the Board of Directors and staff members.

  • Initiates and maintains cooperative working relationships with local, state and national organizations, collaborators, medical professionals and providers

  • Establishes and nurtures relationships with businesses, elected officials, and others who can help support and fund La’akea Village programs and services.

  • Engages and encourages a strong, active Board of Directors that assists in fulfilling the mission. Ensures that the Board is actively involved in planning, fundraising, and outreach activities that help build relationships beneficial to La’akea Village.

  • Serves as agency spokesperson and acts as a liaison with other public sector agencies, foundations and businesses. Actively engages in public relations and media communications. Provides strategic oversight in all marketing and communications.


Executive Director senior-level leadership/management experience, with significant experience managing a diverse team, financial activities, development, operations and human resources, budgeting, contract administration and strategic planning in a nonprofit organization.

  • Department of Health Waiver program experience, including understanding of documentation and tracking procedures and standard practices of billing requirements.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and significant experience motivating, organizing and managing staff members and working with a board of directors to further the organizational mission.

  • Experience working with members of the developmentally disabled community and a comfort level of working in an on-call human services environment in support of our developmentally disabled participants.

  • Demonstrated capacity to build alliances and create collaborative relationships with other nonprofit/governmental entities.

  • Exemplary communication skills including public speaking and writing, and an ability to network, develop and maintain relationships with community representatives, business executives, foundation officials, donors, and the media.

  • Possess integrity, a strong work ethic and passionate commitment to the work of La’akea Village.

  • Demonstrated success in working with private and governmental funding sources, contract management and contract deliverables. Substantial record of successful fund raising from public and private sources to support nonprofit agency programs. Experienced in a variety of donor campaigns.

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of study from an accredited college or university.

  • Comfort, familiarity and capacity to work within the context of Hawaii’s multi-ethnic environment and unique island culture.

  • Demonstrated success in working with varied programs.  Able to track projects, set priorities, complete projects, monitor performance, and report on differing projects and programs oncurrently. 

  • Possess entrepreneurial drive in exploring new opportunities and creating new programs.

2) Live-in Caregiver

If you want to improve the quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities that need help with the activities of daily living, then this is the job for you! We are looking for caring and compassionate individuals who want to “life-share” in a group home setting in exchange for room & board (private room in an 8 bedroom group home & organic meals). 20 hrs per week.

We have an opening for part-time caregiver positions. All evening hours with an opportunity for full time work in the future. Minimum six month commitment.

Duties will include meal preparation, light housekeeping, companionship activities, transportation, and may also include bathing.

3) Direct Support Worker

Help support a participant to have meaningful and productive work opportunities, real friendships and fun. 15+ hours per week flexible hours. Daytime, evening, overnight and weekend hours available.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To provide supervision & support to assist the participant in their effort to achieve her/his goals.

  • To help develop activities in accordance with the goals and objectives for the participant.

  • To be a team player and work collaboratively with all crew.

Qualification/ Requirements:

  • Current TB clearance

  • First-aid & CPR training preferred and we will provide if necessary

  • Criminal history, Adult and Child Protective Services background checks according to DOH standards which includes never having had a DUI.
